How To Sell Amazon Products On Your Website

how to sell amazon products on your site

If you have your own niche site or blog, you’ve probably wondered about earning some money from it. In fact, you may have set it up for that very reason.
Selling Amazon’s products is one of the most popular ways to earn money online. You simply promote their products, and when someone buys something, you get paid- great, right?

How Do You Get Started?

Applying to become an affiliate

You go to the Amazon Associates page and sign up to become as affiliate (you can do so here – though please note, this is for the UK site).
In order to become an affiliate, your website is going to have to have some content on it and some traffic, and ideally you’ll have had it up and running for a few months.
The reason behind this is that Amazon will check your site to ensure that it is what you say it is. Basically, Amazon don’t want spammy or illegal sites promoting their goods- it just doesn’t look professional.
Don’t worry about having a huge amount of traffic- as long as you’ve got some, chances are you’ll be accepted. Just make sure your content is good, too.
I signed up to Amazon Associates a few months after creating my first blog, and it got accepted straight away- and this was when I really didn’t have a clue what I was doing!

When you’ve been accepted

Once you’ve registered to become an Amazon affiliate, you can start to sell Amazon goods. You’ll want to sell products that are related to the theme of your site, as opposed to just completely random items.
One of the best ways to do this is to write reviews of the products that you’re selling. That way, you’re getting a very specific audience to view your site, and they’re much more likely to convert to sales.

How Much Commission Do You Earn?

That varies depending on what you sell, and where you’re located. For more information, take a look at the Amazon Affiliates site info:

How To Insert The Product Code Into Your Post

This is the most technical part of selling Amazon products (in my opinion), but the great news is- it’s very simple.
To find the code you’ll need to advertise a product on your webpage, simply sign in to Amazon Associates, and search for the product you’d like to promote. Once you’ve found it, click on ‘Get Link’, where you have several choices about how you’d like to display the link.

Step 1: Click this button, and then select ‘Product Links’ from the drop down menu.

step 1

Step 2: Search for your product in the search box.

step 2

Step 3: Click on ‘Get Link’.

step 3

Step 4: Copy the HTML code for your product.

step 4

Step 5: Go to your post, and go into ‘Text’ editor.

step 5

Step 6: Paste your code into the post.

step 6

Step 7: View your link.

step 7

Personally, I don’t use the Text and Image display, but it’s completely up to you. Once you’ve decided how to display the link, scroll down to the box containing HTML code, select all of it and click copy.
Come back to your own site, and ideally you’ll have already built your page or post, and will know where you’d like the link to go.
Make sure you click on the ‘Text’ tab in your editor, and paste the code into the appropriate part of your page. When you go back to the Visual tab, you should see the link appear in your page.

How Do You Get Paid?

First off, when will you get paid?

Not until around 60 days after you’ve made your sale.
You’ll get paid for January in late March, for example.
And you’ll get paid either directly into your bank account, by cheque, or by Amazon gift certificate.
The minimum payout for bank transfer or gift certificates is £25, and for cheques it’s £50 (however, payment by cheque is only available to non-UK residents).
The rules will vary per country, so it’s worth doing some research as to what the payment thresholds are in your home country.

So there’s your very basic introduction to using Amazon Associates to earn some pennies from your website.
I’ve not gone into detail about what you should sell, because I’m going to go into detail on that topic in another post- yes, there’s more to it than meets the eye!
